DISTANCE LEARNING COURSE
The Distance Learning Course enjoys accreditation from the ETDP and Seta which is a SAQA accredited quality assurance organisation. Although the Home Study course is not internationally accredited at present, successful candidates graduate with a National Diploma in ECD (Early Childhood Development Practice.) Upon completion of the course, candidates will be qualified to teach children from 2½ - 6 years of age.
Distance Learning Course: This course has proved to be of great benefit to parents interested in learning how to help their own children maximise their potential. It is also recommended for people who enjoy working with young children. Qualified teachers have derived great benefit from learning how to individualise their teaching curriculum so that learners of mixed abilities can work at their own pace. The home study course has also proved to be a boon for those students wishing to start their own Modern Montessori School
Course Requirements: The course is comprised of 8 study guides and 3 text books. Students are required to work through each study guide at his/her own pace. Each study guide culminates in an assignment that must be submitted to the College via email or post. A tutor is assigned to each student and is available either telephonically or via email or fax. There is no final examination. Instead, once the student has completed all 8 assignments, a diploma is awarded, which reflects the combined average of all grades achieved. Students are allocated a maximum of 3 years in which to complete the course; however most are successfully able to complete it within 18 months.
Practical Component for Home Study Students: For those students living in proximity to Modern Montessori campuses, practical workshops are held every 4 - 5 weeks. While these are not compulsory they are nevertheless extremely helpful. Students who attend all eleven workshops (in addition to completing the course) will be awarded a certificate, indicating which workshops have been attended.
